“Opinions, desires, and interests come and go; only time
will tell what is a fad and what is ongoing tradition in society.” Un-named.
While there are many things I could point out and argue
about these two blog posts, I believe their mutual opinions and personalities
would, for the most part, invite pleasant mealtime conversation. Both authors
from “Death Of Pretty” (Pat Archbold) and “Men Growing Up to be Boys” (Lakshmi
Chaudhry) seem like the typical middle age “haters” of the younger and upcoming
generation. With this being said, their conversation would likely gravitate
toward the downfall, in their eyes, of the American youth. They may begin by
discussing their personal opinions in relation to their blog/articles, which are
posted online. Though, it may be assumed, since their articles were written
five years apart that their ideals on the subjects might have changed, for the
better or worse. In their dinner conversation, the turn of the working
individual and integrity of the working class due to men’s “self-indulgence”
may be discussed. This being said, the author of “Death Of Pretty,” would
direct their conversation toward the death of morality in the female populous
as mediated by the “teenage male” desire for less responsibility. They may
share a laugh over how they knew the true meaning of being a “woman” or “man,”
yet in reality their ideals of this is just that, they are opinions. The
opinions of trueness have been sculpted in the culture that they each grew up
in, which certainly is NOT our time. They will certainly both agree though that
the driving factor behind both of these likeminded arguments is the media, for
they feel it is the root of all evil in causing the adolescent decline.
